Archive News London, August 2002 Fujikura's erbium doped fibre coils give high efficiency Fujikura Europe Limited, one of the leading manufacturers of specialist optical fibres, has announced that its erbium-doped fibre (EDF) is now available as a coil, with an optional aluminium reel as small as 50-80mm. This will allow reductions in size for short lengths of amplifying fibre in low-gain devices, making it suitable for metro amplifiers. Each reel is terminated with SM fibre to avoid mode mismatching and to aid the ease of customer splicing. The low polarisation mode dispersion and good noise figure of Fujikura's standard EDF modules have been retained, and a gain flatness of less than 4.0 dB is possible before GFFs are applied. These coils are available in both C and L band. |
