Micro-optic gain flattening filters target terrestrial amplifiers

Fujikura Europe Limited has added micro-optic Gain Flattening Filters to its range of filter options.

Designed for terrestrial applications, this filter type inherently has a lower temperature dependance than grating based GFFs which eliminates the need for expensive athermal packaging.

Based on thin film technology, these devices are available for both C band and L band. The specifications are dependant on the starting gain profile, but the micro-optic option offers low insertion loss and tight control over the peak to peak error function. These GFFs are suitable for flattening deep gain wells that can occur in the 1530nm region.

Fujikura also offer concatenated long period gratings for submarine applications, as well as grating based GFFs for some terrestrial applications.
