Newsdesk: Latest News London, August 2002 Anritsu and Fujikura announce Raman amplifier collaboration Anritsu and Fujikura have announced an agreement to collaborate on the development of Raman Optical Amplifier systems for applications in 10Gbit/s and 40Gbit/s Long-Haul and Ultra-Long-Haul dense wavelength division multiplex (DWDM) optical transmission systems. Fujikura will design and develop the Raman Amplifier using its comprehensive range of fibre and passive components, while Anritsu will supply the high power 14XXnm pumping lasers from its Tanasawa factory in Japan. Anritsu is one of only a few suppliers capable of volume manufacture of 14XXnm pumping lasers offering output powers greater than 300mW. Multi laser diode Raman optical sources are created by combining several wavelength stabilised pumping lasers, typically using two or more wavelengths between 1400 and 1500nm. The distribution of the pumping wavelengths and power is critical in achieving a flattened gain response for C- and L-Band optical amplification. Initial development plans will allow Fujikura to introduce early customer samples from August 2002. Projected worldwide sales are around €2.5 million for the 2002 financial year, increasing to €17 million in 2005. About Anritsu Anritsu Corporation is one of the leading suppliers of test and measurement solutions for fixed and mobile communications systems.
