FSM-17S: A low-cost solution utilising high end technology

The new FSM-17S fusion splicer from Fujikura Europe utilises leading technology
to deliver a low-cost solution for small-scale installations and networks.

The new FSM-17S fusion splicer, launched at this year’s ECOC in Stockholm, combines Fujikura Europe’s advanced technology and development expertise to meet customer requirements of specific industry sectors.

Ideally suited to telecom and data communication providers, the compact FSM-17S is easy to use and offers one of the most versatile and efficient solutions to fusion splicing. Fujikura has harnessed the technology used in the FSM-50S, their high-spec splicer, to deliver a competitively priced product for this particular market sector.

With a splicing time of 11 seconds and splice protector shrink time of 35 seconds, the FSM-17S is capable of splicing various fibre types and employs a fixed v-groove alignment system to give fast and simple operation for optimum efficiency. Features such as a dual positioning monitor and PC communication via USB port further enhance its usability. Weighing in at just 2.6Kg, this splicer is also one of the lightest models available yet does not compromise on power; its large battery capacity ensures the highest productivity rate compared to its nearest rival.

“The FSM-17S is an ideal solution for small-scale networks and installations,” explained Rod Slatter – Regional Sales Manager. “By keeping pace with our customers’ demands and improving our manufacturing costs, this fusion splicer is perfectly placed as a low-cost, yet highly efficient, solution.”
