Fujikura trainingA DIFFERENT CLASS

Specialised skillsets, technical expertise, and hands-on competance are critical to the telecoms industry. Developing and maintaining an expert skill and knowledge base supports the expansion of communications networks, data centres and digital infrastructure, which is why we offer our own training and information sessions.

INTRODUCTION TO FIBRE OPTICS

Our Introduction to Fibre Optics training days are held throughout the year at our head office in Chessington, Surrey. This free day covers an introduction to fibre optic communications and is supplemented by support workshops to help with the understanding of fibre optic transmission, installations, testing procedures and equipment.

Anyone who attends can expect to gain a basic hand-on and theoretical understanding of fibre optics, knowledge of how to choose the right equipment and practical advice that will help increase productivity and reduce downtime.

It's suitable for management, buyers, fibre installers, and test engineers. This training course is also suitable for anyone who is considering starting work as a fibre engineer because it covers the basics of fibre optic data transmission from an on-site/engineer's perspective.

The day is scheduled as follows:

Morning session

The morning session is theory based and will cover the following:
  • Understanding of fibre optic transmission, installation, testing procedures and equipment
  • Advice on which equipment should be used to meet your needs
  • Understanding and problem solving with optical loss testing and OTDR results

Afternoon session

The afternoon session is hands-on and will include:
  • Fibre optic cable preparation for fusion splicing using the correct tools for the job
  • Fusion splicing, practical fibre preparation and use of fusion splicers
  • Fault finding and installation test using common optical test equipment

FIBRE OPTIC FUSION SPLICER TRAINING

The two-day training programme will focus on best practices for the installation of SpiderWeb Ribbon (SWR) cable in the field. It will include, but not be limited to, the following elements:
  • Correct handling, operation and maintenance of Fujikura mass fusion splicers
  • Wrapping Tube Cable/SpiderWeb Ribbon cabling including enclosures
  • Splicing best practice
  • Handling and preparation of cables
  • Splicing of Fujikura SpiderWeb Ribbon cable
  • Testing of splice joints
  • Documentation

The course will include in-class lectures as well as significant practical work (including practice/demonstration) and tests.
