Overview

Fujikura FAST Series connectors is family of field-installable connectors which require no polishing or assembly tools because each connector includes its own pre-assembled wedge launcher. It means that our FAST Series connectors have a potential fibre connectorisation time of less than 30 seconds, including preparation.

Because our FAST Series connector products have been factory-polished, we’ve completely eliminated the need for any polishing materials in the field, which enables the preparation and termination of optical fibres in a fraction of the time compared with other conventional methods. FAST Series connectors also use V-groove mechanical splice principals, so use of an epoxy is not required for the termination of the connector. Proven mechanical splice technology ensuring precision fibre alignment, a factory pre-cleaved fibre stub and a proprietary index-matching gel combine to offer an immediate low loss termination to either single-mode or multimode optical fibres. Apart from the standard fibre preparation tools, no other specialised tools are required in conjunction with the PC range of connectors, however APC variants require some additional tooling.

Use of this onsite assembly optical connector makes it possible to improve the flexibility of optical wiring design while also reducing the time required for fibre termination. It’s why our FAST Series connectors are already a popular solution for optical wiring inside buildings and floors for LAN & CCTV applications. With the expansion of FTTH, Fujikura Fast Series connectors are becoming the connector of choice of incumbents, municipalities, utilities & alternative carriers.

FAST™ Plus

FAST™ Plus introduces a special cleave tool, FASTCLEAVE™ and a new type of index matching material, called ‘solid gum’ which is combined with the existing index matching gel.

Due to the blade design and operation, the FASTCLEAVE™ produces a highly repeatable and high-quality fibre cleave condition which enables an exceptional ‘first time pass’ connection; meaning an OPEX reduction in customer site revisits. Due to the fact Fujikura supply the FASTCLEAVE™ as a pre-packaged accessory with every box of FAST™ PLUS; the CAPEX normally associated with the use of a high precision cleave tool is therefore completely negated. In conclusion, the FAST™ PLUS product range will benefit operators in their FTTH networks builds, especially in their access network where speed, accuracy and repeatable good results matter.

Applications:

  • Premise environments
  • Connections at the desk for LAN environments
  • Patch panels
  • Direct equipment termination
  • Fibre to the subscriber (FTTx) applications
  • Repair and replacement requirements
  • Equipment test leads

Features

Compatibility

FAST Series connectors are compatible with 250µm and 900µm optical fibres, 900µm, 2mm, and 3mm cordage. All primary fibre types are supported, and each connector is colour coded to industry-standard requirements so identification is quick and easy during and after installation.

VFI for confirmation of installation

A factory-installed wedge clip (included with each connector) is removed and discarded upon completion of the termination. Incorporated into this device is an innovative, translucent wedge enabling the use of a common VFI to provide a “pass/fail” signal once physical contact is achieved.

  • Connector termination in less than a minute
  • No messy epoxy
  • Termination to both 0.25mm & 0.9mm Ø fibre
  • Variants available for >2.0mm & >3.0mm Ø fibre
  • No specialised tooling required
  • No specialised training required
  • Low insertion loss and back reflection
  • VFI can be used to confirm fibre is installed properly
